Asian A.V. Club newsletter #44: Ji-young Yoo
The video chat series continues and today we are talking with Ji-young Yoo who in a short period of time is making some cool career choices with films like Freaky Tales and Until Dawn!
Hey #AAVC fam! So I know we were trying out a new series called ‘SPEED DATE’ based on the limited amount of time to do these interviews, but then we got the chance to talk to Ji-young Yoo for a longer chat and had to re-brand with the new ‘HANG with’ series! This title could be a work in progress, so we are very keen on hearing from you with other possibilities that we can settle on!
But let’s get to the main event. Ji-young Yoo first got on our radar as one of the key leads in the Prime Video dramatic series Expats. Holding her own against Nicole Kidman and Sarayu Blue, Ji-young’s performance as Mercy was a real emotional roller coaster that the young actress handled with ease. This year, Yoo has two buzzy films coming out within a matter of months of each other. Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden (Half Nelson, Captain Marvel) bring Freaky Tales to our screens. Set in Oakland, CA, during 1987, the film weaves four wild stories together, with Ji-young’s segment about a group of punks who decide to stand up against some neo-Nazis.
In a few weeks, Ji-young gets her scream queen on in the twisted, gory Until Dawn by horror maestro David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation).
Like we said, she is having a moment. So press play and lets HANG with Ji-young Yoo!
