Asian A.V. Club newsletter #52: What to Watch pod
It's our second ever podcast! This time we bring in the super knowledgable critic/journalist Patrick Heidmann to offer his thoughts on a boatload of movies and TV shows out right now!
It’s funny how every time there’s a new pod to put out, something interesting is offered up that becomes totally immersive and basically throws the release schedule in for a loop. In this case of episode 2, I was planning on putting it out last week, but the Asian A.V. Club was invited to the small coastal towns of Riccione & Rimini to attend the first ever Italian Global Series Festival.

Showcasing shows from all over the world with a focus on European titles, we got to watch some interesting series that will be featured in upcoming what to watch pods. In the end, the korean psychological thriller Doubt picked up the best series at the fest (sadly none of the leads were in town to accept).
It was an interesting experience to attend a festival solely focused on TV series, but now that we’ve experienced it, hopefully they’ll be more opportunities like this in the future!
Now… onto the main event! We have a brand new podcast for you to watch/listen to. Because I put together a pretty insane watchlist of movies and TV shows to talk about, there was one person I knew who had not only already seen 70% of the things on my list, but would also be more than happy to set aside time to catch the remaining titles… Patrick Heidmann.
Back in his home turf of Germany, Patrick is a renowned journalist that writes for everything from magazines like GQ to Rolling Stone, but is a constant contributor to the newspapers FAZ and reviews for Spiegel Online. As a regular at film festivals Patrick has also moderated and even sat on a jury for the awesome Series Mania. Of course, I’ve known Patrick for a hot second and besides talking shop, we love a good catch up in the process, which is kind of how this episode plays.
So check out our chat either by clicking on the youtube link below, pressing play via apple podcast, spotify, iHeart Radio or just listening to it in our embedded audio player below. So many options!
